Tips for Saving Energy When During Cold Season

1. Check that your fireplace flue is closed.
2. If you have an electric fireplace, it is a good idea to:
    a. Tape off the flue open/close lever so that it is always in a closed position to keep guests/tenants from inadvertently opening it
    b. Stuff some insulation around the flue opening edges to completely stop any air flow. Even with the flue closed, there may be some air flow around the edges especially on a windy day.
2. Check your thermostats for the correct temperature settings (refer to the Association's Cold Weather Policy https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzqOCvMWpLa0WEtpSFNicnNkTFU/edit?pli=1.)
3. Check that all the thermostats are working correctly (not that a thermostat is broken and a baseboard heater is constantly heating).
4. Check seals around doors.
5. Thicker curtains that remain closed during colder temps will save energy.
